- What is the AACI?
The African-American Cancer Initiative is a metro Atlanta based public private partnership consisting of Provision Research Management Group, Inc. and various 501(c)(3) organizations for the purpose of having a collaborative opportunity to pursue the cause and cure for cancer in African Americans and to provide outreach, education and research in an effort to eliminate disparities in cancer.
- What is the mission of AACI?
The mission of AACI is to develop and manage independent preclinical and clinical biomedical research projects which address unclear biological indicators underlying African American cancer disparities. Additional endeavors will encompass establishing treatment centers along with providing preventative education and outreach.
- What experience do the individual partners bring to the project?

- How is the AACI funded?
AACI is funded through private individual donations and fundraisers.
- What does AACI plan to do that is not already being done in terms of cancer research, treatment, education and outreach?
Research will focus on preclinical and clinical trials aimed at African Americans being a significant part of the trials so that treatment protocols targeting cancer treatment in African Americans are developed.
- Why not just support American Cancer Society, Susan J. Komen or some of the other organizations working in the cancer arena?
AACI will collaborate with these organizations as it targets in research, treatment and education to the African American population.
- How will people know about the AACI?
Strategies to promote AACI include the use of social media, printed and radio media, and establishing collaborative relationships with churches, businesses, community based organizations and other key community persons.
- Is there a difference with cancer as it relates to the races?
Studies prove that the absolute minimum is done to educate, screen and treat cancer in African Americans. Even though obesity, alcohol, tobacco and poverty are established triggers of cancer, genetic markers that are exclusive to only African Americans are an attributing factor that demands research.
